Anvil Website Face-lift - Latest News.

As you can see, I have been working on the new website and changed it's appearance. The colour scheme may not be to everyone's liking but I intend to allow members to choose a colour scheme for themselves. The face-lift is still being developed and as a result some of the links will be broken and some of the content will not yet have the final appearance that I would want, but I expect to correct these issues very shortly.

Rehearsal with Jo Braham

rehearsal with Jo

On Saturday 27th March Anvil Chorus had the good fortune to employ the coaching services of Jo Braham, lead singer of the highly successful quartet, "After Hours." Jo is currently with the lady's barbershop chorus "The White Rossettes." We all enjoyed a great day when we learned some moves to go with one of our contest numbers - "Strike up the Band/Leaderman" medley. John Brough, our lead section leader set up his camcorder in order that the session could be recorded for future reference. These videos have now been edited to to produce four short reminders and chorus members can view them by logging on to Anvil Chorus and navigating to the rehearsal page via the members only page.

New Portable Risers for Anvil Chorus

Building the new risers

George Badland and Derek Woolf took on the task of constructing six large and six small portable risers for use by the Chorus on those occasions when our standard risers could not be transported to sing-outs.

Derek’s garage was turned into a workshop and the “Badland & Woolf Company” sprang into production, completing the risers in record time. Unlike the famous product of shipyard “Harland & Wolfe” it’s hoped that the new risers will have a slightly longer shelf life!

Sturdy and collapsible, each riser measure 39” x 16” x 5” and weighs only 19 lbs. They fit handily into car boots allowing volunteers from among our members to take charge of individual risers.

Dedication to Music Award

This year the 'Dedication to Music' award has been won jointly by Niamh Tucker (far left) and Eve Houston (center right) . This trophy is awarded each year by Anvil Chorus and Second City Sound to a pupil (or pupils) who has made a significant contribution to music-making in the school. The large shield remains in the school, but both Niamh and Eve will keep the small replicas. Niamh and Eve are pictured here receiving their awards from John Ellis, Chorus Manager of Anvil Chorus and Kate Hyde of Second City Sound.
