joins us from the Great Western Chorus, Bristol, (with whom he was a gold medalist) and
will be a very welcome addition to the lead section. We wish him a long and happy association with Anvil Chorus.

8th March 2011: Martin Wahlgren is presented with his Club Membership Certificate.
The Club are delighted to welcome Martin Wahlgren from Stockholm as a member. Martin, who is spending a year in the UK, is the bass singer with Swedish quartet "Ringmasters" whose achievements internationally include 3rd place medallist in 2010 International Quartet Championship, Philadelphia; SNOBS (Society of Nordic Barbershop Singers) gold medal in 2008 and gold medal in the IABS International, 2007, in Cork.

New Anvil Members
On 22 February 2011 Club Chairman Don Melbourne (rt) and Chorus Director Duncan Whinyates presented two new members with their Anvil Chorus membership certificates. The first photograph (top) shows Ian McCombs (tenor) receiving his certificate, followed by that of Michael Gearey (bass). Both Ian and Mike joined us after attending the January Learn-to-Sing Course and will be welcome members of their respective sections. We wish them a long and happy association with the Chorus.

Annual Dinner Trophy Presentations
John and Don
At the Annual Dinner John Brough, our Vice Chairman, presented the 'Joe Riseborough Rose Bowl' to our Chairman, Don Melbourne.
This award is presented annually and recipients are chosen by a vote from the club committee. It was the consensus of the committee that Don had not only carried out the duties and responsibilities of the Chairman's role with diligence and care, but that Don has exceeded these duties and responsibilities beyond the expectations of the committee by a long chalk - a view shared by the membership at large.
Pete and Derek
Our MC for the evening, Derek Woolf receiving the Sides Family Trophy, for the 'Barbershopper of the Year' award (voted for by the club membership) from the 2010 winner, Pete Ryley.
In a relatively short spell (just over three years) Derek has demonstrated enthusiasm for being actively involved in assisting with the club's organisation and administration, as well as encouraging and supporting various individuals within the club. It is these qualities which have encouraged the membership to vote for him as our 'Barbershopper of the Year' - a fitting reward for his efforts and achievements.
